SCHOOLFEST IS THE ULTIMATE OPEN HOUSE for Greenpoint & Williamsburg parents:  50+ schools, day care centers, and other service providers for children in Greenpoint & Williamsburg, all at a single venue.  Along with INFORMATION TABLES, there were 3 WORKSHOPS to help parents understand their educational choices in our neighborhood, the application process, key deadlines, and more: (1) Pre-K/Elementary Schools, (2) Middle Schools & (3) High Schools.  Joyce Szuflita of NY School Help offered an overview of the school system and application process followed by a short presentation by each panelist and a Q&A session.  For parents, it was an unparalleled opportunity to learn about neighborhood schools and services.  For schools, it was an invaluable promotional platform and networking opportunity. There was also a wonderful standing room only STUDENT TALENT SHOW and FREE RAFFLE PRIZES!

Town Square thanks you all for being a part of Spring Schoolfest on March 1st.  Despite the blustery weather, we had a terrific turnout from parents and schools.  Over 700 people streamed through John Ericsson MS 126 to learn what’s available for our kids, take in the workshops, and enjoy the very talented student performances.

Town Square thanks Councilmembers Diana Reyna and David Yassky and their respective staff for their extraordinary effort that made Schoolfest a reality.  We also thank Principal Rosemary Ochoa, Peggy McCarthy, Ed Lentol, Desiree Barmore-Smith and their volunteers, U.S. Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, NYS Assemblyman Joe Lentol, Democratic District Leader Steve Cohn, BPP Marty Markowitz, CB1 District Manager Gerald Esposito, the DOE representatives who attended Schoolfest, and Joyce Szuflita of NYC School Help who was absolutely critical to the workshops for all their hard work and support.
